Tesla Introduces Dog Mode

Tesla is always innovating and now they have innovated for your pets.

Dog Mode, as it is being called, is a new way to keep your pets safe while you are out of the car running an errand.  The basic functions of the new feature are that it will keep your vehicle climate controlled for the best comfort of your pet and it will display the interior temperature on their large screen.  This way a passerby can see the temperature inside the car.  Below are some things to be aware of Tesla’s new Dog Mode.

Dog Mode can be found through the climate control settings.  It can be hard to find, but there will be a ‘Dog’ option.  You can use this setting to adjust the temperature while you are away from the car.  Another interesting feature is the new ‘Sentry Mode’ that is activated during Dog Mode.  Sentry Mode can detect any danger near the car and then switch over to Alert Mode. This way your fluffy friend can be safe and comfortable.  It is import to be aware of any local laws that prohibit leaving pets in vehicles.

The Dog Mode and Sentry Mode update is available this year for the Model 3 and will be added to the Model S and Model X.

More about knowing your laws, there are 22 states that have laws in a jurisdiction that make it illegal to leave any pet in a parked car or protect individuals who break into cars to rescue a pet.  Though Dog Mode might make your pet safer, it doesn’t change the laws.  There are concerns that Dog Mode might make for more irresponsible people who would leave their pets in a vehicle longer than they should.  Another concern is that this feature will be using the battery.  The good news is that a mobile alert will be sent to the owner’s phone if the battery gets below 20%.

It is amazing that car manufacturers are now thinking about the comfort and safety of pets.  But sometimes it just might be safer to leave your pet at home when possible.
